  • Since I'm not sure how you have 7Zip set up you can follow these instructions.
7zip acts in a similar way to Windows Explorer. Just open it and navigate to where you have the .rar file with Pose Player. Now choose the .rar file and double-click on it and it will appear just like any folder you have opened in Windows Explorer. Grab the file that's there and drag it to wherever you want it within your Mods/Packages folder structure. Usually when I first install things I put them in a Test folder (Mods/Packages/Test) until I have a chance to make sure they're doing what I want.

That's odd, my 7-zip doesn't respond to double-clicks. Must be a preference setting.
You have the entire Framework in place, that is Mods, Packages, and the required Resource.cfg file, correct?
Download or put the rar file on your desktop (or some other place away from your game folder). Right-click on it and select 7-zip's 'Extract Files..' command. That should give you a new folder with the package file inside. Move the package file to Mods/Packages either by drag and drop between two windows or by using Copy/Paste on the file.

  • I always double click to open rar, zip, and 7z files with 7zip. The window opens and I drag and drop the same way @BSIRegina does it, saving me unnecessary folders to delete afterwards.

Thanks @BSIRegina and @igazor. I did what you said, and unfortunately my game has been wiped - all households. It said something about an unrecognized video card. What happened, and how can I fix it? The 'Mods' folder is also gone.
ALSO @TreyNutz and @BSIRegina, I double click on it and it says 'How do you want to open this file?' and it says 'find application in store.'
  • Did you move or delete your DocumentsElectronic ArtsThe Sims 3 folder by any chance? Doing so will 'factory reset' your game to a state as if you'd never played.

  • I have all the archive types (.7z, .rar, .zip) associated with 7zip so I can just double click on them to open the archives. Once I have 7zip opened either by double-clicking an archive or by opening it directly I can navigate through pretty much my entire hard-drive with it just like I would with Windows Explorer, including double-clicking on more archive files.
@HoneyHaninozuka are you sure you didn't do something like rename your game folder in My Documents/Electronic Arts? It sounds like you got a brand new instance of your game running and that doesn't happen from just trying to add a mod. As for the unrecognized video card message, that happens when running a card newer than the ones the game knows. It just means you have to manually set your video options (screen resolution, etc.).

  • @igazor@TreyNutz@BSIRegina I think I've figured out what I've done. A while back I had to create a duplicate and rename my Sims 3 folder. I think I've been playing on that, then added the mod to The Sims 3 folder and have been playing on that. I was getting a bit bored with my games anyways, I was going to start new households. I've deleted my Sims 3 folder and now have only the one. When I open my documents/EA/The Sims 3 folder, the 'Mods' folder isn't there. I recreated the 'Mods' file. This is what shows up when I try to 'Extract files..' from what I put on my desktop, which is the file. How can I fix it?

You don't extract .package files. You just put them in your Mods/Packages folder. You only extract zip, rar, and 7z flies.
It looks to me like you already extracted the rar file because in the pic above you are trying to extract the .package file.

  • Oh goodness, Trey just made me realize the way I word things sometimes could be confusing because in my mind you extract the .package file FROM the archive file by either dragging it out and dropping it where you want it or by selecting the file and clicking the Extract button. Sometimes my brain totally jumps over further explanation when I'm typing. Once said file is extracted from the archive, then it's placed in the appropriate location within the Mods/Packages folder set-up. I'm sorry if I caused confusion.
